What constitutes a vintage ride?

Rather than being a ride from a given year(as in the vintage of a wine) or being built between 1919 and 1930 (as in a vintage car), I like to think of a vintage fairground ride as one that meets the definitions of the word “Vintage” as shown above.

J and S Thurston's Cyclone Twist

For me, a vintage fairgound ride is one that is no longer widely travelled, that was highly popular in it's time and that provides a feeling of nostalgia when seen again. Rides such as the Skid and Octopus meet these criteria easily. The wooden-floored and grass-cutter Cyclone Twists (such as those manufactured by Bennetts and Eli Bridge) are good candidates for being Vintage rides, while the Sizzler Twist has a while to go before it becomes a classic!
